The reasons I'm broke . . .

I know I haven’t posted in VERY long time but feel it’s time to return, to use my blog as a method of keeping track of my purchases as I seem to lose track very easily. I’m a few weeks into my first semester back at uni for my final year studying Fashion Management at Robert Gordon’s University in Aberdeen Scotland. To graduate I need to complete a dissertation which is rather daunting and seems impossible at this time being. Last Friday I had to hand in my Dissertation topic… I choose to research the influence Blog’s have on fellow shopaholic of my age, to see ‘if Blogs have replaced Magazines for a main source of fashion inspiration’. I certainly feel I no longer read endless magazines articles, but instead I’m permanently looking for the next best blog to follow to be updated on that individual’s unique style. On the other hand such blogs are a bad influence on weak shopaholics like myself. I currently have £5 to my name and that’s £5 of my overdraft so money that’s not actually mine. Payday could not come quick enough. Below is some of the recent reasons that have led to my poor state of affairs… although they can be seen as investments, investments to my winter wardrobe.

1. Burgundy Jumper H&M
2. Bat Jumper H&M (my version of Topshop's J W Anderson Jumper)
3. Borg Denim Jacket Topshop
4. Primark PU leather Skirt
5. Topshop Black Midi Dress
6. Topshop Studded Peplum Top
7. H&M Contrast top
8. H&M Burgundy Grungy Hat
9. Black Boots H&M
10. LAST BUT NOT LEAST - Topshop Paisley Western Boots

You think i would be content with my recent purchases but the problem is I'M NEVER CONTENT! The words of wisdom from my father... 'When are you going to wear all these clothes?' its not a case of wearing them its a case of i have it this beautiful piece of perfection belongs to me! As you may have noticed i have quite the collection of boots that tend to be kept in my cupboard away from danger as if they were precious pieces of crystal. I have strict terms when it comes to wearing my boots; there cant be any chance of rain, snow or sleet, they are not to be worn out in town encase some drunken bum happens to spill any drink on them or me being the drunken bum happens to scuff them. The above two pairs of boots should be my last for a good while well i say that now. Even though i have very little money for the time being i still temp myself by going onto Topshop on a daily basis. I've seen a lovely skirt and shoes in the sale and have been begging my mum to borrow money to get them but to avail.

Well one will continue to try her luck... with 'Pester Power'

My uni work was to organise a fashion show to raise money for the local charity The Archie Foundation. This is the fourth year of the show, so we had a target to beat lasts years total of around £11,000 and we successful raised £14,000 showing our hard work all paid off. I was part of the marketing team to promote the show below is the posters we designed...

I'm relieved it all went to plan and cant believe how much we raised... one of the modules Ive enjoyed the most

Haircare and Skincare Purchases.... for a change

I've been working for Boots since October last year which i think has led to a new addition... buying endless supplies of toiletries. I find myself falling into the trap of believing the latest product are the 'greatest' and buy into the gimmicks just to see if they will benefit me as they advertise, for example i buy hair care products that promise to make you hair more manageable and quench the thirst of my dry hair due to the over bleaching i tend inflict on it. Another product i have an unlimited amount of is purple shampoos. From Lee Stafford to Poundland’s equivalent, I’ve tried the majority that’s on the market. I have a feeling that it won’t be long till ill need to seek help for my problem or open my own shop :/

But on the other hand my 'market research' can then be shared with you all to advice from my experience :)
One hair care product that has worked wonders is the Organix Moroccan Argan Oil (seen below). After reading numerous articles about the benefits of argan oil, it seemed to be the missing element from my hair care regime. The range comes in shampoo and conditioners too but i haven’t been tempted to try YET. This oil is a cheaper alternative to others that reach highs of £30, this one was only £6.99 and it probably works just as well. I’ve been using it for about a week and have noticed a big difference in the softness and shine of my hair. It's meant to be applied to damp hair but whenever my hair is dry i add some.

As well as hair, I splashed out and bought some Origins skincare to try help clear up my skin. After trying a number of face washes and moisturisers I decided to seek some advice from a family friend who works for Origins to help solve my skin care problems. She came to the conclusion that I maybe over stripping my skin of its moisture which then leads to oil being created that then leads to blemishes. I used to use Boots Witch Hazel and Tea Tree products, as I felt I had oily skin. I was given a few samples to try out:

  1. Checks and Balance Foaming Face Wash
  2. Modern Friction facial Scrub
  3.  High Potency Night-A-Mins (Oil Free)
  4.  Balanced Diet Moisture Lotion

I have seen a slight change in the reduction of redness in my skin. The lotion is lightweight for under makeup and the night cream is mineral enriched to brighten your skin. Origins products consist of natural ingredients that don’t damage your skin. The face wash is for all skin types, so it doesn’t over dry or give too much moisture.  After the success of the testers I bought the night cream and lotion as I was so impressed.

    Outfit Post ...

Quick little post to show today's outfit carrying on the 90's Grunge kinda look whilst including some pastels too...

    • Topshop Fleetwood Mac T-shirt
    • Topshop Skinny Ankle Grazer Jeans
    • And finally the Topshop Studded Slippers
    (Apologies for the poor quality)
    Here's my hint of Pink
I got this coat in the Topshop Winter sale for ONLY £15
I've found that it finished off outfits and is key on trend for the candyfloss colours this season

Here is my faded Purple Rinse also... I'm really happy with the colour just wish it would grow!

I was having a gander in H&M yesterday and bought this pale pink blouse in the sale again for £5

I really need to settle down with impulse buys as money is slowing disappearing :/

All Work and No Play... encourages online shopping

Since my last post I've been busy with uni work doing online research of the topic 'Sustainable Fashion Futures'. One website that gives you an insight to what the future of fashion may hold is Forum for the Future.
There are different scenarios as to what they predict may happen. I advise you to have a read, some predictions are better than others e.g. that everyone will wear a uniform, everyone dressing the same ... seems bad to fashion students but then again i think we sort of dress like that anyway, all following trends on a global scale.

After a number of hours spent doing online research i was tempted on many occasion to scarp the uni work and check every sites 'new in this week' see what goods i could be buying instead and came across these...

New Look Peep Toe Boots £29.99
I couldn't believe how cheap they were compared to other shops. I seen boots similar to these in Urban Outfitters (seen below) a while back but they sold out.

I have a friends 21st next weekend so have an occasion to wear them, just need some outfit ideas planned, which may indeed take a whole week  :/
P.s. Hair colour update the purple has completely faded so its just old grunny grey :)

    90's Grunge

    1. Topshop Slip Dress
    2. Grey Speckle Dress
    3. Pastel Pink Metallic Tube Skirt
    4. Daisy Embellished Cami

Here's the recent items i have been investing my hard earned pennies on. I've created some outfit ideas for how i want to create the 90's grunge look. When i seen the Topshop Slip dress i thought it seemed rather fancy for my usual attire but decided i can wear my old faithful grey t-shirt underneath the give a casual feel along with some brothel creepers. I couldn't resist buying the Grey Speckle shorter dress again from Topshop since I'm hardly ever out of the midi length dress seen in older posts. You may also notice from older posts Ive had a fetish for tube skirts, when i seen this pastel pink Metallic Tube Skirt there was no second thought, i needed it, to kick start my pastel themed wardrobe for the new season ahead. Finally i bought the Daisy embellished Cami AGAIN from Topshop. I haven't yet wore it but when the hotter summer months eventually arrive it will be a staple piece i believe. Again i teamed it up with my grey t-shirt, ill just wear it with some denim shorts.
